  • Adiponectin is a hormone secreted from fat tissue and plays an important role in glucose metabolism
  • ¬†Adiponectin exists in 3 main forms in fat tissue and bloodstream:
    • low-molecular-mass (LMM)
    • hexamer (MMW)
    • high-molecular mass (HMM)
  • The plasma HMM form of adiponectin¬† is decreased in type 2 diabetic patents.
  • DsbA-L is a protein that interacts with adiponectin and regulates adiponectin HMM formation.
  • DsbA-L is found in adipose tissue and its expression is negatively correlated with obesity in mice and humans.
